In the end, you start to think about the...
It’s been about three and a half months since we left our friends, family, and familiar surroundings behind for this unpredictable adventure. It’s funny to think back to our first few weeks ‘on the road’. We lost things, got things stolen, got lost, confused, disoriented, frustrated, lonely, and homesick. We still do and get those things. But, to a certain,...

I Can´t Believe it is Halloween Already...
Hola! Wow, our blogging capabilities seem to be failing, sorry about the delay in news. Since our last post, we have seen many different towns, including a new country! We made it to Peru after a long night bus. Luckily we landed in a quiet beach town, Mancora, and caught up on our sleep. We had been itching to go to a town called Huaraz which was about 18 hours from Mancora. We split the trip up...
Dig in!!
The best way to see a country is to actively participate in that countries customs, culture, and passtimes. As our friend Fabian demonstrates, eating Guinea Pig was the, ahem, most filling way to experience Ecuador. Well, maybe it wasn´t. I tried some, and it wasn´t my favorite thing in the world. I like Ecuador much more than I like eating Guinea Pig. Sarah, what were your hamster´s...
An overdue update
Whew. It´s been a little bit since I´ve blogged. Sorry about that. Here are some updates from the past few weeks:
San Blas
As Elena informed you, this place was amazing. Living on a postcard perfect tropical island for two days is pretty much just as you would imagine it to be: relaxing, mostly. The pictures do a better job explaining it than I ever could.
Quito, Ecuador
We arrived in...

We're in Our Element
Hola Amigos!
The days are flying by! We left Costa Rica on the 5th and headed for Panama. We took two buses and one water taxi (which is really fun!) to get to Bocas del Toro. I guess we had something else in mind, but it was not our favorite town! We feel bad saying that, like we’re a bit travel snobby by now. But we accepted it, and then left. We only spent two nights there and within...

So our tans are getting pretty good! We have spent a week in luxury with Tom and Ryan, staying in the nicest place we have yet. We have gone to an animal rescue shelter, gone snorkeling, and visited a national park, Chauita. Any day now we will head into Panama for the next leg of our trip. On our list, the Panama Canal! We keep hearing of a little restaurant that sits above the canal; we will...

Cerro Chirripo!!!
This last Sunday Elena and I set out to summit the highest peak in Costa Rica: Chirripo. This 3,280 meter (12,533 feet for us English folk) monstrosity climbs and climbs and climbs. And then climbs some more. We stayed at the remarkable Casa Mariposa Hostel (Butterfly house, more on this place later) the night before the climb. Nice location: 50 meters from the trailhead. We woke at 5 and...
A thing that happend...
Elena and Garrison had been cooking so much that they went through a propane tank. Farmer Frank had an extra one at the house, so they were able to exchange it, no problem. Garrison started to carry the old one back up to Frank´s but Elena insisted on carrying it herself. Upon carrying the old tank back to the house…
Elena: This tank is heavy. Geez, how heavy was the full one?

A Day in the Life...
So yesterday we broke ground for a pond. A pond, you say? A pond! Quite the idea, but we´re going through with it! It will be used to help with irrigation, and they will also experiment with some water plants. After the digging and sweating and digging and sweating, we harvested potatoes! It is always a delight to see the look on Garrison´s face. Having his novice (yet very impressive!) gardening...
From Grease Gun to Green Thumb
Let me start by saying, until this point in my life, I´ve never had any real gardening experience. Sure, I´ve mowed and raked the yard. Perhaps a better way to put it is I´ve been assigned those tasks. In actuality (especially in my younger years) I pushed the lawn mower around, smushing down the grass sloppily until my frustrated father told me I was doing an unacceptable job and took over for...
Hey everyone,
Life in Costa Rica is good. Pura vida, as they say. We work a few hours a day on the farm. Yesterday we took down some old fencing. Who knows what we will do for the next four weeks! Our spirits are up right now. We took the 25 minute bus ride into San Isidro de el General for some city time. It is refreshing, surprisingly, to come to the city for some good cooked food and internet...
So one of the funniest things we have encountered here are hot dogs. Yes, we bought them. And yes, they remind us of home. But also, the hilarious part is, they are all individually wrapped! Who would have guessed! We have a lot of free time together, so you see why this has been so entertaining. The farming is going great. Besides some homesick syptoms, we have been learning a lot. We planted...
Pineapple tastes a little different here. Wonderfully different and fresh. We have spent the past three days soaking up the sun, swimming in the ocean, and watching the crabs crawl across the sand. I miss home (a lot), but the atmosphere here is beautiful. Everyone mumbles mucho gusto constantly while they are wiping their hands across their sweaty foreheads. It feels good to be somwhere...
Headed to the farm tomorrow
So Elena and I have been spending the last three days in a beach town called Dominical. We went on a horse back ride down to a beautiful waterfall/swimming hole today (pictures to follow) and spent the afternoon soaking in the rays on the beach. Fresh mango, pinapple, and bananas have been a treat. We´re enjoying the little luxery of the interweb currently and have a quiet night planned in our...

The Start of an Adventure (in the works)
Greetings and salutations! I hope friends and family have found this blog easily and will utilize it to track the progress of Elena and I’s (Garrison’s) unpredictable journey. This blog will be a tool for stories, photos, words of inspiration, and updates throughout our travels south of the border. It will be a tool for readers as well for feedback, support, and inspiration. During...
